I have the router configured to use my ISP's DNS servers but in testing an item of software a question arose about the router that I cannot answer myself.

Q). When the router has DNS servers configured does it intercept, parse and reply to DNS queries sent by hosts on the private network or do those queries pass through transparently to be answered by the ISP's servers?

Software is V3.2.4
