Draytek AP-800 Questions was created by linggi
Hello,

I have 3 AP-800's and 1 2820n router. I would like to connect the AP-800's to the same wireless LAN as the 2820, to extend the wireless network.

I know I can do this wirelessly by using WDS, but is it possible to use CAT5 to connect the AP-800's to the 2820 instead and boost the signal that way?

I've thought about just using the 800's as access points, but then I'd have 3 different ssid's and therefore 3 wireless networks which isnt what I want to achieve.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Thanks,
Adrian.

I tried using WDS and AP700 but it was not very succesfull better to use cat 5 cable. Give each AP the same SSID and security as the mainn routerBut here's the important point: put each AP on a different channel and also avoid the one the 2820 uses. Eg. 2820 Ch1, Ap1 ch 5, Ap2 ch 9 Ap3 ch 13. Also avoid any channels with strong signals from neighbours and bear in mind some Macs dont seem to be able to use Ch13.

I made the same ssid on all 4 of my AP700 with same password etc just change the channels so they don't conflict like 3 , 6 , 9 , 11

Done the same way with 45 Cisco Aironets 1242 which does the channels automatically

Perfect - thankyou for that; much appreciated.

on another note - does WDS actually work? I have another project where I will need to link 2 AP-800's wirelessly to a 2820n...

Thanks again,
Adrian
