Configuring 2900 was created by ttmt
Hi
I've bought a cheap secondhand 2900, now I need a little advice on configuration..

The 2900 is going to 'sit' behind my DSL router and provide VPN termination.
I have a static IP address from my ISP.

I've statically assigned the 2900 a new LAN IP Address, changed the password, rebooted and all is OK..

In Internet Access Setup, I've selected StaticIP
What do I enter in here ?
Is this the Static IP, Gateway that my ISP has assigned ? or is this a LAN IP and my DSL router as the gateway ?

Any other advise ?

Thanks :)

The 2900 is not very good regarding VPN behind NAT.

I recommend using the 2900 itself for establishing the Internet connection. Then VPN will work painless.

otherwise:
assign the 2900 a static IP from your local network, using the IP Adresse of the currently used router as the gateway.
try to activate the "DMZ" or "exposed host" function of the router currently in use, and let it point to the IP Address of the 2900

Thanks for the reply.

How does the 2900 connect to the internet ? I didn't think it was an ADSL router ?
Thanks

It uses your DSL router (if correctly configured) as a modem.

Just started having a play.

Defaulted the 2900 and then changed the IP address to 192.168.1.250
Followed the Internet Access Setup Wizard and selected DHCP so my DSL route would give it another address.
Now it has 192.168.1.66 assigned as well.

if I plug my PC into the 2900 I can get internet access but only for a minute or so and then it goes..

From the 2900 I can't ping any device on my 192.168.1.x range including my router.

If I plug into my router, I can't ping or access the 2900 on either 192.168.1.250 or 192.168.1.66
Static Route is shown as :
* 0.0.0.0/ 0.0.0.0 via 192.168.1.1, IF3
C~ 192.168.1.0/ 255.255.255.0 is directly connected, IF0

Any ideas ??

Thanks

You should not use the same subnet for the network behind the 2900 & the network behind your 1st router.

I still recommend disabling the router function of the 1st router and, use the 2900 to establish the network connection using PPPoE/PPPoA
