using vigor 2830vn with 2nd router was created by bubble
Hello,

I have an avm fritzbox 7270 as my primary router for my home office. This basically handles the office telephony functionality and acts as the DHCP server for the existing network with wireless and wired connections. Because of a locally crowded 2.4Ghz frequency I operate on the 5ghz band.

We have moved the office into a new extension and now find wireless coverage poor in parts of the house.

I have recently purchased a vigor 2830vn router to act as a wireless extender with my existing network. The plan is to use a wired connection to the new vigor router and forward the wireless requests to the existing avm router and network. The AVM doesn't support WPA2 security / WDS setups on non avm equipment.

I initially had some success by turning off the DHCP server on the 2830vn and using the relay agent option on LAN1. However, doing this I lost the web admin page and was unable to access via a browser. I performed a factory reset.

I have since setup 2 virtual networks (separated LAN PORTS and SSIDS) but despite trying all sorts of things I cannot access the network on my AVM router.

So can someone suggest how I go about creating a wired connection to the AVM router (using it as the primary DHCP server) without losing the web interface on the vigor 2830vn?

I'm not sure if this helps... I've had unstable link problems recently, and I've always used my 2820 router for my O2 broadband.

O2 support required me to use their router (to diagnose, and easier for their support).

My line is under test, but I've managed to just use the O2 router to link to the internet, and I have 1 cable that goes from the O2 router to the 2820. I've switched off DHCP and wireless off from the O2 router - so all it does is connect to the internet. the 2820 I've not changed any settings except: disabled the WAN1 & WAN2, and LAN DHCP Gateway = O2 router address. All my 2820 features all seem to work (4 different SSIDs wireless, LAN IP Binding, 2 VPN links and NAT settings)

I've not used another subnet so I can access both web interface where neccessary.

I appreciate your help with this,

when you say you disabled WAN1 and WAN2 do you mean you turned off everything or you used the bridging settings on the WAN settings page?

Yes, I'm using the O2 router (during O2's line testing) for the internet link, and the Draytek for everything else - just the gateway address in the DHCP (on the Draytek) is pointing to the O2 router's IP.

I've recently bought a 2830, and last night I had a go at it, I can see it has extensive VLAN settings
- I see what you mean by bridging etc
default settings have 192.168.1.1 LAN1 / 192.168.3.1 = LAN2 / 192.168.5.1 = LAN3 ,
if you're on another subnet, say LAN2, is the router on the relevant subnet address, default LAN2 = 192.168.3.1 ?

I think the 2830 is a bit new and so far I've had to factory reset+firmware reset it twice...
- first time I was mirroring the 2820 settings, after reboot, the router kept rebooting itself...
- second time, I wanted to test out the VLAN, and after a reboot, I could not connect to the router at all
(I wonder if the "conflict ip" issue on the 2830 is causing a problem here)...

I will wait for next update firmware before using the 2830 "live"...

Sorry, misunderstood - WAN settings doesn't really matter.

I think you said you wanted the AVM to be the DHCP server:

I got this setup working :
O2 Router = Internet line in
ip=192.168.88.254
DHCP on, range 192.168.88.100-192.168.88.253 / Gateway = 192.168.88.254

2830 = P1 to laptop, P4 to O2 router.

So WAN settings unchanged (they are all on by default)

LAN > General Setup > LAN 1 "Details Page"
For NAT Usage : ip address = 192.168.88.0 / subnet mask = 255.255.255.0
RIP = disabled
DHCP: Relay Agent = Enable, DHCP server IP address for Relay Agent = 192.168.88.254
Rest is blank.
Reboot, and it works.
================================================

Hope it works for you too!

Rgds, Tak.

ok thanks I have a partial success but wireless access does not seem to work. Any help would be useful

AVM router (192.150.168.1) DHCP 192.150.168.20 - 192.150.168.253

Vigor Router
VLAN 1 (with SSID)

DHCP OFF
NAT 192.150.168.0
Relay agent to avm 192.150.168.1
Wired access to network on AVM router works
however, admin page through browser for VLAN 1 is not visible (how do I access it?).
Also wireless access does not seem to get a valid IP address on VLAN 1 so can't get wireless to internet

VLAN 2 (with SSID)

DHCP ON
gateway 192.150.3.1
The reason I setup VLAN 2 in the first place is because I couldn't Access VLAN 1 web admin through browser. This gives me the route into the browser config pages.
