Hi All

Vigor 2920n FW 3.3.6

I'm having problems connecting my 2920n to my Virgin Media super hub. I am aware of the issue whereby the superhub cannot simply act as a modem but I need to find a workaround until VM release the new firmware which enables "Modem Mode". Which hopefully should be soon considering it's gone to public beta testing.

Essentially I need some elaboration on this post here -

http://www.forum.draytek.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=15616&p=66806&hilit=superhub#p66806

Here's what I have done so far

Superhub

- Given it address 192.168.2.1
- Disabled DHCP
- Disabled Wireless
- Disabled IP Flood Defence, DoS Attacks etc (Known problems with these settings)

Draytek

- Given it static IP 192.168.2.254
- Enabled DHCP
- Enabled Wireless
- Ran connection setup wizard

Connected the WAN1 port of the 2920 to a ethernet port on the super hub.

I'm having a problem inputting the correct settings / addresses here -

Firstly should I set a static or dynamic IP ? - Of course it's dynamic from Virgin I know..

I know I need to specify some kind of IP address and I have tried using the following settings

192.168.2.1
255.255.255.0
192.168.2.1 <- I know but this is the gateway surely?

DNS - 192.168.2.1 (have also tried 194.168.4.100, 194.168.8.100 which are VM DNS addresses)

Still no joy, I noticed that Voodle (in the post linked above) suggested something to do with the DMZ on the superhub so tried giving that and address of .253 and then tried using that.

Can anybody please help with this workaround until I can get the firmware update for the super hub?

In very simple terms I need to point the draytek to the gateway (super hub) on 192.168.2.1 what am I doing wrong?

PS I know my screenshots are blank, I decided to start from scratch.

Thanks in advance

James

I think you need to have a different local LAN IP range for each piece of kit.

e.g. the Virgin Superhub local network as 192.168.0.x and the Vigor local network on something different such as 192.168.1.x

Then set superhub as 192.168.0.1
Enable DHCP
Set the DHCP range, as 192.168.0.10 to 192.168.0.49
Put in a DHCP reservation issuing the Vigor WAN1 MAC (in your picture it's 00:50:7F:00:00:01) to 192.168.0.10
Set DMZ to local IP 192.168.0.10

On Vigor obtain IP automatically will now do what you need. Might as well crank up the MTU to 1500 too.

I think that should get you going. Regards, Neal

I'm pretty sure the so called superhub can be run in modem mode only. Pop over here I'm sure I've seen people using it as a modem only http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/12/

This is possible, we've done it at our office and it's running fine.

When you login to the VM Superhub's admin panel there should be a small [ Advanced Settings ] settings button in the middle at the bottom once logged in. It's tiny and I ended up speaking to VM on the phone to get this!

Once it's set you can't login as it is just a modem so I can't login again to find this setting!

Let us know how you get on.
