Problem with 2820 was created by njh
Hi,

I have a 2820 which does not appear to be working. The symptoms are after it boots up, and not connected to anything, I have the QoS light on, the Act blinking slowly and the DSL blinking at about twice the speed. Also the left light on port 2 and the right one on port 3 are permanently lit. I do not have ADSL, but if I connect a LAN cable to the WAN port and then to my laptop, the router seems to be acting as a switch as my PC gets an IP address from my LAN through the router.

I have tried holding the reset button for 30+ seconds with no difference.

I have held the reset button when booting, forcing the left three LEDs to blink rapidly (TFTP mode?) and tried reflashing with the UpgradeTool having set my PC to 192.168.0.100 and 192.168.1.100 (firewall off), but the the PC fails to communicate with the router.

Is there anything else I can try or is the router dead?

TIA,

Nick

Hi,

You can recover easily your Router.

Check link : http://www.draytek.co.uk/support/kb_vigor_reflash.html#reflash (section : Abnormal Firmware Conditions )

Also confirm that your's PC IP is fixed (not via DHCP) with something like : 192.168.1.10, in order to be able to upload firmware to Vigor2820 (192.168.1.1)

Hope this helps,

regards,

rj

That is what I thought I tried. I did not know which IP range the router was on, so I tried setting the PC (WinXP, no firewall) to 192.168.0.100 and 192.168.1.100. I did try a 30s reset beforehand. I assume I am entering tftp mode by pushing the reset button while the router is booting, to get the three left lights (act, usb and csm) flashing quickly. Is that correct or should I just allow it to boot normally? I have tried with both the FirmwareUpgrade utility and the tftp302 utility

Also can you confirm I am doing a reset to factory defaults correctly?

If I need to know the router's IP address, how can I find it?

Hi,

When DrayTek router is in TFTP mode (upgrade mode), its -always- using 192.168.1.1 .

So, please just use 192.168.1.100 on your PC and try sending firmware again (while its ACT+USB+CSM leds are blinking)

(also disabled any AntiVirus/Firewall during this process).

rj

I've now tried every LAN port, PC on 192.168.1.10, firewall and AV off and the TFTP utility always gives TimeOut after a bit of a wait. If I wait long enough it then reboots, but no joy.

I've even tried the WAN port, predictably with no results.

Hi,

Hmmmm... when you connect your PC to Vigor2820 LAN port, does the LAN port led glows ?

If yes, try this to confirm the connection between your PC and Router :

- While Router in TFTP mode, try to ping from your PC > 192.168.1.1

check if it replies.
