DNS filter problem on 2830n SB was created by timjdavis
Hi,

I'm new here ...

I've trying to configure a new 2830n single-band to use WCF and the DNS filter, so that I can block various https social networking sites, along with other HTTP social, webmail and other unsuitable categories.

Originally tried 3.6.4.1. The problem here was that as soon as DNS filter was enabled, the Draytek blocked its own admin webpage. So I had to hard-reset and start again.

Install 3.6.6.1 as recommended by support. Now this does block the https websites. But regular http now just time not after a while with page unaccessable, not the blocked message.

And, more importantly, after an hour or so, the Draytek refuses to accept my valid password to access the admin and I'm locked out again. And then refuses to go the the admin page altogether. And another hard-reset is required

Anyone ever tried or experienced these issues?

I'm probably going to revert to 3.6.4.1 again .. but try and put the Drayteks own ip address into the WCF white list .. and see if I can get enough working that way :?

Many thanks

If you have not done it already
for the https blocking try at System Maintenance >> Management >> Allow management from the Internet and enable the https
for the password problem go to System Maintenance >> Admin Setting and enable admin log in from wan

Also you may need to use the *rst* file so if you did upgrade to 3.6.6.1 with only the *all* file ... if is not much settings to do back from the begin reload again the firmware with the *rst* file it will clean all settings and back to factory but if you have many settings to do from the begin make a backup file before the *rst* file and then use it after

Thanks for the reply. I will check this out tonight, including re-entering the complete setup. I need to snap the setup into a document anyway. I'll let you know how it goes, hopefully it is something I have done.

Thanks

Hi,

I tried all the suggestions but to no avail. In particular, I reset the Draytek using the 3.6.6.1 RST file and then completely re-configured manually. When complete, when I enabled the DNS filter, the same symptoms occurred, as follows:

The http: blocked site, do not get the blocked message but time out
the https:/ version are not all blocked
BUT .. I'm unable to logon to the Draytek. It doesn't say the password is wrong, it just keeps going back to the same logon page

I've now sent the backup of the configuration to Draytek and they are going to try and reproduce in the lab.

:(

Hi,

I've been through all the 'what is DNS filter' stuff already. And I've set it up the same a instructions, except I've had to do the firewall filter stuff too, which is not in the instructions. But nowhere does it mentions ... if setting the DNS filter stops you logging onto the console then ... do this?
And of course the filter is not working correctly.

Should my PC clients have their DNS point to the Draytek router? They aren't at the moment
