Set up USB 3G as WAN2 with 2910 and T-Mobile was created by hopwood
Hi guys,
This should be really simple, right?
I have a T-Mobile contract sim USB in a Huawei E160 dongle. I have configured the 2910 as follows:
General Setup:
Enable: Yes
Display name: dongle
Physical mode: 3G USB modem
Load balance mode: Auto weight
Active mode: always on
Internet access:
PPP Client mode: enable
Modem initial string: APN:general.t-mobile.uk
Modem dial string: ATDT*99#
PPP username: user
PPP Password: one2one
PPP Authentication: PAP or CHAP
If I unplug and replug the dongle it works briefly and shows up green in the online status. But after 5 minutes or so it disconnects and shows the "Message: PPP Disconnect" line in WAN2 status.
Given that I only bought this router to do this job this is extremely frustrating and there doesn't seem to be a DrayTek UK support number available, which is also extremely frustrating.
Really hoping someone can help
Joel
PS: the dongle works fine in a T-Mobile share dock.

With that 3G modem it should definitely be simple, which firmware have you got on the 2910?

That's probably the wireless card firmware, it'd say the actual firmware at the top of the system status page.
If you haven't got it already, I suggest updating to the 3.2.3.1 firmware from here:http://www.draytek.co.uk/support/download/v2910_3231.zip
That modem should really auto-detect, you can check whether it's detecting or not from the Online Status page, there'll be a small icon of a green circle with a mobile phone in it.

I have now upgraded the 2910 to the latest firmware.
I have had no luck getting either of the following modems to work:
T-Mobile contract E160 / E170
Vodafone contract K3520
I cannot believe there is not a DrayTek UK support phone number!

UPDATE:
I have now got the Vodafone K3250 working with APN:Internet and default modem string.
It's been up about 5 minutes so let's see how long it lasts. The T Mobile one wouldn;t stay up for more than about 10 minutes and gives a status message of PPP Shutdown after that.
Fingers crossed...
