VPN Firewalls
ExpiredWhat is a VPN Firewall Router?
A VPN, or Virtual Private Network, is a securely encrypted tunnel between two or more points, which commonly passes over the Internet. This encryption ensures that data passing through that tunnel cannot be read by a third party if it's intercepted somehow. This can be a link between your phone/laptop and a VPN server (Teleworker VPN), or between two VPN servers (LAN-to-LAN VPN).
A Firewall is a security system that selectively blocks or allows traffic, either to stop an outside attacker from accessing your systems & services, or to stop users on your network from connecting to unwanted sites and services.
A Firewall VPN Router integrates both a Firewall and a VPN server. This is an ideal combination, as the router is already handling your Broadband connection, so it's well suited to gatekeeping access in and out, with its NAT Firewall and Content Filtering. Adding a VPN server allows the router to provide point-to-point VPN connectivity, without requiring the cost and maintenance of an additional server
DrayTek have an extensive range of VPN Firewall routers that make full use of this synergy, to give great performance for regular Internet traffic, with its Category-based Content Filtering Firewall. The integrated VPN server on DrayTek Vigor routers provides great flexibility, with some models being able to link with Active Directory, for authentication of remote Teleworker connections. Support for a multitude of protocols including SSL VPN, OpenVPN, L2TP over IPsec and Hardware-Accelerated IPsec VPN, provides performance to make full use of Fibre broadband.
