Exchange Sync with Mobile Phones

I am having serious issues with Exchange Sync from my mobile Phones.

My Samsung Galaxy S will sync with Exchange perfectly over wireless in the office, so too does the iPhone.

When I go out of the office and attempt to Sync ove 3G - It does not work on either phone.

When I replace my Vigor 2820N with a netgear DG1000, or a Netgear DG834, both phones synchronise perfectly from both inside and outside the office.

All the routers have exactly the same ports open.

Why does the Draytek Router not work when the other (Netgear) routers all do?

Check your Management Admin Ports do not conflict. Also check Web SSL port.

Which management admin ports and which Web SSL Port?

I need port numbers, not names.

If, say for example, you are forwarding Port 443 to your server,

and under System Maintenance >> Management > Management Port Setup HTTPS is shown as 443 - then you have a clash.

In this instance I would suggest changing Management Port Setup HTTPS to something different - e.g. 8443

Management Port Setup HTTP on 80 could well clash with your custom Open Ports.

Check also SSL VPN General Setup, and perhaps change this from 443 to something else, perhaps 10443?

Also, under VPN and Remote Access >> Remote Access Control Setup if you aren't using these features, untick all the boxes and OK.

If still no good please list your Open Ports for further diagnosis. Thanks, Neal

Thanks Neal - You're losing me.......

These are the current open ports - all pointed at the server:

20, 21, 22, 23, 25, 80, 110, 143, 220, 389, 443, 465, 987,
989, 992, 993, 995, 990, 999, 3389, 5631, 5678, 5721 and 26675.

I obviously need to access my router from the internet, can I do it using only
HTTP (and not HTTPS(443) or Telnet(23) ) and therefore only change port 80
to 8080, for example, and leave the others at their default setting?

I am using PPTP and IPSEC VPN for remote user VPN and LAN-2-LAN VPNs, so
how do I get around that one?

Thanks for the list of ports.

Anything listed on the built in Management, Web SSL, VPN set up etc. takes precedence.

So, you need to change the port clashes 20,21,22,23,80,443 to start off with. Even if you never intend to Telnet in to the Vigor, for example, you still must change it to allow your custom port forward fule to take effect.

Under Management Port Setup put the radio dot in User Define Ports and I would suggest:

  • Telnet Port 8023
    HTTP Port 8080
    HTTPS Port 8043
    FTP Port 8021
    SSH Port 8022


Once applied, you would then access your router internally using:
HTTP http://lan.ip:8080
HTTPS https://lan.ip:8443
FTP ftp://lan.ip:8021

and so on and so forth

Externally, you would then access your router off site using:
HTTP http://wan.ip:8080
HTTPS https://wan.ip:8443

Of course, off site, having your password travel accross the internet unsecurely using HTTP is a slight security risk. I would always recommend using HTTPS for much greater security. Even in an internal network I would prefer to use https instread of http, so it can't be picked up as easily by a network sniffing tool.

Change SSL VPN General Setup, from port 443 to something else - I suggest 10443 - Even if you never intend to use this feature of the Vigor, you should still change it to allow your custom port forward fule to take effect.

None of the your custom ports conflict with your using PPTP and IPSEC VPN for remote user VPN and LAN-2-LAN VPNs - so you are fine leaving those ticked, as appropriate, under VPN and Remote Access >> Remote Access Control Setup.

That should be all :)
