Unable to get NAS seen outside of network

Hi

I am so sorry about this post

I used to have this working..changed settings a long time ago and unable to get my FTP or other services from a QNAP box working outside of local LAN
Dont remember what I did so started afresh a few times...no joy
Reset my Draytex 2830 and opened ports, rediredted ports..opened DMZ but failed...

I know I am missing something small and wondering if anyone could quide me :) and get me back on track
If needed will reset router to default settings again and start afresh

Hi Dan

Did you eventually sort this out?

I have a QNAP with exactly the same issues. I can NAT port forward to just about any other device on the LAN but the QNAP fails to respond.

If you found a solution I would be really greatful if you could post it here.

If you both provide a little more info on your exact setups, ie QNAP address, ports your forwarding and services your trying access we should be able to sort it :)

Also list your nat statements.

The router is a Vigor 3200 (firmware version 3.3.7.2) with only WAN1 connected via a Vigor 120.
The IP addresses are:
192.168.3.1 - Vigor 3200 internal
85.85.85.85 - Vigor 3200 External (not real address)
192.168.3.2 - Buffalo NAS
192.168.3.9 - QNAP NAS
192.168.3.10 - Microsoft SBS 2003 Server

Ports 81 and 445 are set as Management Ports

NAT redirections are as follows (all TCP):

Public - Private IP - Private - Description
25 - 192.168.3.10 - 25 - SMTP
110 - 192.168.3.10 - 110 - POP
1723 - 192.168.3.10 - 1723 - PPTP (VPN)
4125 - 192.168.3.10 - 4125 - Remote Workplace
413 - 192.168.3.10 - 413 - Remote Workplace
444 - 192.168.3.10 - 444 - SharePoint
80 - 192.168.3.10 - 80 - HTTP to Server
443 - 192.168.3.10 - 443 - HTTPS to Server
8080 - 192.168.3.9 - 8080 - QNAP Administration Console
82 - 192.168.3.9 - 82 - QNAP Web Server

9000 - 192.168.3.2 - 9000 - Buffalo Web Server

All Works OK except for the QNAP
When inside the network http://192.168.3.9:8080 and http://192.168.3.9:82 work fine.
When outside the network http://85.85.85.85:8080 and http://85.85.85.85:82 (or the equivilent dns name)
return "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"

I'm guessing that either:
ports 82 and 8080 are being routed elsewhere by another function of the Vigor 3200 that I have not reset
or
the QNAP requires another port to open (possibly a UDP port) that I am overlooking in any documentation.

Any ideas would be most welcome

My first recommendation would be not to open the management console to the internet, only allow access from devices inside the network, so if you have any VM or desktops that you can access remotely I would say access the QNAP management from that, you really should have the bare minimum accessible directly from outside.

If that is not an option and you want management remotely I would first check if the traffic is reaching the QNAP.

On the QNAP under System Admin > System Logs there should be a System Connection Log tab, enable this and then test remotely to see if the traffic is hitting the box, if it is then the issue is not the Draytek. Check this first and post your findings.

Thanks for that Supra

Port 8080 was only open as a test (which also failed) and is now closed.

I started logging on the NAS system connection log (having ticked ALL the options) and tried connecing again and got nothing.

I also connected succefully on the internal IP address (192.168.3.9:82) and checked the logs again and still saw nothing and I would have expected to.
