Usage of Vigor 120 was created by afterdark
We have several public IP addresses, which are used for a variety of web servers, mail servers and office internet. Up till now, we have had a Vigor 2600 plus acting as the ADSL router and inside it, a number of Vigor 2300s or PCs directly connected to the 2600. This has worked fine but we are now looking to upgrade to fibre and new routers are needed.

Can a Vigor 120 be used to connect to the fibre coming into the building with a number of routers inside it, each with different public IP addresses? Basically, can a 120 do the job that our existing 2600 does?

Thanks.

Vigor120 is a Adsl2+ Modem to Ethernet , mainly used for PPPoE for example as a adsl2+ modem for Airport Extreme or Draytek Routers that have Ethernet Wan connections.

Thanks for comments. If VDSL is what is provided by fibre, and the 120 does not support this, then clearly it won't do in this situation.

However, since we would effectively starting from scratch, I am wondering what the best way forward is.

Our 2600 acted as our ADSL modem, with the first of our block of addresses assigned to it and set up for IP routing. Connected to it were some 2300s and servers, each with their WAN address set as one of our other public IP addresses.

We need a modem capable of handling the fibre broadband and it looks like a 2850, for instance, will handle this. However, it is only acting as the modem and it seems like a lot of additional functionality that is not needed.

The reason we had multiple 2300 routers to handle the other IP addresses was simply that we already had them, and they could provide the functionality that we did need, such as NAT and VPN. However, maybe there is a single device that could do the job of the multiple routers?

Thanks.
