I have a pair of Netgear Powerline adapters, but the speed is around the 30-40Mb mark, which is nowhere near the 200Mb they are capable of. Standard video can be a bit stuttery from my Qnap box.

Now I'm thinking of going down the AP-700 with WDS route to extend the wireless to my 2820Vn. I'm hoping that it'll work on 802.11n so will be quicker upto 300Mb. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Does anyone have an opinion on this? Would I get the performance on the AP-700 I expect?

BTW of the 2 devices that I would connect into the AP-700 one would be wired, the other likely to be a 802.11g device.

I think that wireless will almost always be slower than powerline networking, personally. There's just too much possibility for interference and the realistic speeds I've seen from 802.11n are more in the range of 20-50Mbps depending on other wireless connections nearby.

The AP-700 can do WDS but I'm not sure if it can do 802.11n with it, because the 2820 requires TKIP encryption with for WDS, which cuts the speed down to 802.11G speeds.

Thanks for the reply. I think I've decided to just run a cable through the floor. I've had bad experiences with both the wireless and EoP kit.

I need to run an extended HDMI cable for my media center box into the lounge so I might as well drop in a cat-5 at the same time.

I 'm running powerline 200mbps from my 2820 to a qnap 509pro and depending which electricity circuit i use i get 90+ or 35+.
For my hd video I use the 90+ (over a 5m cat5) and it runs perfectly, whilst the 30+ is used for less intensive activity.

Ps i also have a 5m hdmi going spare. if you are in the uk are you interested?

Thanks AcL. I've been toying with the 509 myself, but every time I look in depth I think I can build a box cheaper that'll do more, but then the 509 is really a set and forget, hmmm.

I need to do some digging into the HDMI route, to make sure it'll be that or one of these converters that uses Cat-5 to send the signal. If I opt for the HDMI route I will get back in touch to see if youo still have it.

I've been down the whole, wireless -> EOP 85Mbps -> EOP 200Mbps route and none of these solutions provided a network that was stable enough to support streaming from a Gigabit NAS to a Popcorn Hour 110 (probably naff electrics in the house). I've gone down the Cat5e cable route and its absolutely brilliant.
