Router Setup - Windows

It is recommended to leave the modem unplugged from the AirPort router until the settings have been changed using the AirPort utility.

To configure the Apple AirPort, open the AirPort Utility and the router should show in the list of detected devices. Select the router and click the Edit or Manual Setup button depending on the version of the AirPort Utility that you are using.

That will go into the settings for the router and it should show an orange status light / symbol to indicate that it has no internet access. Go to the Internet tab to configure that connection.

It should show the current Connect Using setting as Ethernet and it will have an IP address in the 192.168.2.x range to indicate that it has received a local IP from the Vigor 130 modem:

On the Internet tab of the AirPort Utility, set the Connect Using setting to PPPoE.

Enter the Username and Password for the internet connection using the details that the ISP have supplied. The Service Name field should be left blank.

Click Update to apply the connection changes.

If after clicking Update, the router reports problems, click Ignore this problem for those so that the router can restart and apply the changes:

While the Apple AirPort router is restarting, plug the Vigor 130's ethernet port into the WAN port of the Apple AirPort router.

Once the router is back online, it should re-detect and show a green indicator light to indicate that it now has internet access:

Click on the Internet tab then the TCP/IP tab to see the IP address for the connection:

Configuring DHCP/Static IP

If your ISP is using DHCP or a Static IP address instead of PPPoE, the Vigor 130 modem needs to be reconfigured to pass that type of connection through to the device behind it.

To do that, connect a computer directly to the Vigor 130 modem's LAN port and the PC should receive an IP address in the 192.168.2.x range (if not, set the PC's IP address to 192.168.2.10).

With that connected, the Vigor 130 modem's web interface can be accessed on http://192.168.2.1 with a username of "admin" and a password of "admin" by default.

In the modem's web interface, go to [Internet Access] > [MPoA / Static or dynamic IP], on that page, select Enable for that connection type like so:

Click OK on that page to apply that change, at which point the modem will need to restart, so click OK on the restart page to restart it.

When the modem is back online, it will be able to pass through DHCP or Static IP connections to the device connected to it.

The Apple AirPort router will need to be configured to use DHCP or a Static IP depending on what your ISP has supplied.

VLAN Tag Configuration

Some ISPs may use a VLAN tag other than VLAN tag 101, the Vigor 130 is pre-configured to use that VLAN tag on the VDSL2 interface (not ADSL) and so, if the ISP uses a different value, this needs to be changed on the modem.

To do that, connect a computer directly to the Vigor 130 modem's LAN port and the PC should receive an IP address in the 192.168.2.x range (if not, set the PC's IP address to 192.168.2.10).

With that connected, the Vigor 130 modem's web interface can be accessed on http://192.168.2.1 with a username of "admin" and a password of "admin" by default.

In the modem's web interface, go to [Internet Access] > [General Setup], on that page, the VLAN Tag insertion (VDSL2) setting will be enabled and set to 101. Change the Tag Value setting to the required value then click OK on that page to apply the setting change. That will request to restart the modem, click OK on that page to restart the modem.

Once the modem has restarted, the VDSL2 interface will be using the new VLAN tag setting.

Troubleshooting

Setting up Internet access via a Vigor 130 modem is a straightforward process so hopefully everything should go smoothly. However, below are a few tips that cover some possibilities:

1. An important item to note is that for the PPPoE connection a "Service Name" should not be entered. If you have this field in the configuration of the router or computer that you're using then make sure that it is left empty.

2. Check the ISP settings. On VDSL, the modem will need to be reconfigured if the ISP uses a different VLAN tag than the default or if the ISP uses DHCP / Static IP in place of a PPPoE connection.

3. If the Vigor 130 modem is not providing a PPPoE internet connection, factory reset the modem using a pin or straightened out paperclip by pressing the Factory Reset button on the back of the unit until the ACT light flashes rapidly, which should take 5 seconds. The modem will restart with the factory default settings to provide a PPPoE internet connection.
4. If the Airport Utility gives an error, try these steps:
   1. Disconnect the modem from the router
   2. Restart the Airport router
   3. Configure the Airport router with the necessary PPPoE settings (or DHCP if the ISP uses IPoE)
   4. Once the settings are applied with the Airport Utility, reconnect the Vigor 130 modem's ethernet port to the Airport router's WAN port
