Upgrading a Windows-based VigorACS 1.x server to a later 1.x version

The following instructions detail how to upgrade an existing installation of VigorACS version 1.x such as 1.1.9 to the latest version of VigorACS 1.x.

The architecture on later version has changed slightly, so there are some additional steps as part of the upgrade process. Changing the MariaDB from 5.5 to 10.2 is optional, but worthwhile doing.

Differences between older VigorACS 1.x and latest VigorACS 1.x Platform

• Different default VigorACS directory install location
  • Current version: .\VigorACS
  • Previous version: .\VigorACS SI
• OpenJDK instead of Java
• Different EMS directory location
  • Current version: Specified as %homepath variable configured during installation
  • Previous version: Fixed location of C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\EMS
• MariaDB 10.2 instead of 5.5

Step 1 - Stop the VigorACS Service

Step 2. Backup DB

Perform a VigorACS DataBase backup

Check that the backup file has been created successfully and looks the appropriate size compared to previous backups.

Do not proceed until you're sure that the backup has completed successfully.

Step 3. Uninstall MariaDB 5.5

On the next screen you can choose the option to Keep Data.

Note the directory (Normally C:\Program Files\MariaDB 5.5\data) path. After the uninstall you can then rename the directory to ensure that the new install of MariaDB 10.2 doesn’t get accidentally pointed to the old data.

Step 4. Install MariaDB 10.2

Set the new installation path is C:\Program Files\MariaDB 10.2.
VigorACS should be pointed to this directory during the installation and also in the DB Backup script.

Step 5. Restore the Database

1. Change the backupconfig_si_windows.txt
   1. PASSWORD should be set to the mysql password
   2. MYSQLPATH should point to C:\Program Files\MariaDB 10.2\bin
2. Log into mysql C:\Program Files\MariaDB 10.2\bin\mysql -uroot -p
   and type the following commands:
   

   1. use tr069;

   2. CREATE DATABASE tr069;

   3. exit

3. Restore the file
   1. cd c:\Program Files\VigorACS SI\dbutil\BackupRestoreScripts\SI\Windows\
   2. mysqlrestore.bat c:\mysqlback\backup_filename_.sql

Step 6. Uninstall Java

Step 7. Install OpenJDK with default options

Step 8. Make a backup copy of VigorACS SI directory

Step 9. Uninstall VigorACS SI

(check VigorACS SI service is still stopped before doing uninstall)

Step 10. Install VigorACS SI with the following options

1. Local Database
2. MariaDB location C:\Program Files\MariaDB 10.2
3. Upgrade Database
   1. Input mariadb password
   2. Use Check Password
4. Set Memory
5. Set Ports
6. Set Stun
7. Set VigorACS user home path to where you want the cfg/firmware stored (e.g. C:\acshome) (This is called the EMS data)
8. Set the Install Dir (C:\Program Files\VigorACS). Don’t point it to the old install dir

Step 11. Copy the EMS data into VigorACS

Copy the old EMS data from C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\EMS to the new path selected in step 10.

1. e.g. copy from C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\EMS to C:\acshome\EMS
2. Choose ‘overwrite exiting files’ if you want to copy across the old graph data
