Help, I don’t know my router’s admin details!
ExpiredTo log into the router you will need the router’s LAN IP Address and admin password. Instructions on how to log into your router are on https://www.draytek.co.uk/support/guides/login-vigor-router. The default username/ password is admin / admin (or in some cases admin / (blank)
The defaults are listed by model here. When the router was originally setup the password should have been changed to a new password. It is possible that the router was setup many years ago, we’ve seen cases of routers more than 10 years old and the person who originally setup the router may not be known or could have left the company. If you don’t know who setup your router originally, can’t contact them, or the password has been forgotten or lost your then the router will need to be factory reset to log into. DrayTek don’t have any way access your router password or change your password, or reset it remotely or locally. If your router was provided by your ISP, then it is possible that they have placed a sticker on the router with your devices default password, so check to see if it is written on the unit.
Your network settings
Before you reset the router, take a note of the setup details that are known. Ideally you can then setup the router using similar settings to minimise the reconfiguration required for phones, computer, printers and other devices on the network.
Note down:
- ISP Username / ISP Password (If you don’t have this call your ISP)
- Router IP Address / Default Gateway (eg 192.168.1.1)
- DHCP Start Address (eg 192.168.1.10)
- Subnet Mask (eg 255.255.255.0)
- Wireless Network Name (eg House WiFi)
- Wireless Network Password (eg 12345678 but hopefully your WiFi password is a more complex password than this)
Router IP Address
The Router IP Address will often be the Gateway IP Address listed in your PC/Phone/laptop’s network settings. Typically it is 192.168.1.1 but other common values are 192.168.1.254, 192.168.0.1
You can check your IP details by using command prompt on a Windows machine
Start > Run > type cmd and press enter
In the box which opens type:
> ipconfig
and press enter
If your phone is connected to the wireless, on your phone you can check the IP Address details, typically by pressing the information icon.
Devices on the network are allocated an IP Address by the router via DHCP. Often the address will be one in a range of 50-100 addresses starting 192.168.1.10 If you happen to know the start IP Address then note this down, but it’s not essential as you can leave the router to set the start IP Address.
Wireless settings
On your phone, note the name of the Wireless Network you typically connect to. In many cases on phones you can unhide the password to note down the password for the WiFi network.
Factory Reset
After you have noted your router settings, the factory reset button can be used to reset your router admin password back to the default password. On most models there is a small factory reset hole labelled ‘reset’ which contains a button which when pressed for 5+ seconds will reset the unit. A paper clip or pin will need to be used to press the button. No force is needed to press the button.
The ACT light will start flashing very rapidly when the button has been pressed for long enough. Once you have factory reset the router you should be able to access it following the instructions here:
https://www.draytek.co.uk/support/guides/login-vigor-router .
Disable unused services
After you have logged into, browse to
[VPN and Remote Access] > [Remote Access control] and disable all the VPN services. Any unused services should be disabled by default, but if needed they could be enabled later.
Setup Internet Access
The setup instructions to setup the WAN will vary depending on the ISP you are using and the type of Internet connection.

LAN Setup
Once the router is successfully online to the Internet that may be everything you need to configure if your devices are all online. If you noted that your network was using different network settings, then you can change the router configuration to match this.
To do this go to [LAN] > [General Setup] and the Details Page for LAN1. Change the IP Address to match the Router IP you noted earlier and make sure the Start IP Address is in a similar range. If the router IP is 192.168.15.1 then the Start IP should be 192.168.15.10
WLAN Setup
To setup the Wireless, go to Wireless LAN and set the SSID to match the WiFi network name
Then go to the Security Settings and set the Mode to WPA2/PSk and the password to match your WiFi network password you noted earlier.
Finally
- You can take a backup of your configuration via [System Maintenance] > [Configuration Backup
- Note down your passwords and store somewhere safe in case you need to use it in the future
- Update your firmware to the latest using this guide
