VoIP over 3G was created by wipeout
Hi,
I attempted to use VoIP over 3G this morning connecting a 2800vg to my Asterisk server.. The 3G provider is Vodofone.. I can get the sip registration through and can make calls but there is no audio..
It would appear that Vodafone 3G is running a NATed setup because the 3G connection was given a 10.x.x.x IP address.. This shouldn't be a probm because I have other phones behind NAT routers that connect to my server and work just fine..
Does Vodafone block VoIP?
Has anyone got VoIP over 3G working and if so which provider did you use?
Thanks for any input..

HI, I have the same problem and it is not your ISP, as long as they are VOIP compliant. Now in your scenario, WAN connection is via 3G and it give a private IP address (most probably 10.x.x.x)to the Vigor2800VG making it a NATed clinet behind the ISP routing device. This causes NAT-T issues. So if NAT-T is not resolved probably, it will cause such issues.

I hope this helped.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.. I use an Asterisk server for our PBX and it has settings to allow NAT transversal which usually work.. I guess the way to do it is to call Vodafone and get confirmation that they are not blocking the VoIP traffic and then start debugging if they are not..
If they are blocking it I will need to find another 3G boadband provider that isn't blocking it..

For anyone interested..
Just spoke to Vodafone tech support and they have confirmed they are doing port blocking but wouldn't tell me which ports they are blocking..
Also called Three tech support but the support person had no idea what was going on and kept asking me if I wanted to setup email.. Great support that is..
So will have to just try and see if any providers work..

Hi just for info....
Three network do not block VOIP on all there Pay Monthly tariffs.
T-Mobile's Web'n'Walk MAX tariff also is VOIP compliant (the PLUS one isn't).
