Vigor 2820vn - Cisco 7970g IP Phone. was created by paveguts
OK, so I bought a Cisco 7970g phone on eBay, thinking I could have it up and running with my 2820vn in no time... naive, to say the least. So, before I re-ebay it - does anyone in the collective know if it is possible to configure said phone to my 2820vn and utilize my draytel voip services?
many thanks.

7970g doesn't use SIP protocol, it uses SCCP.
I think it may be possible to change the firmware, but you would need to do a bit of a google!

The odds of you bricking it are pretty low if you can get the firmware on there.
Configuring the phone without the special management software is the "fun" part, I'm not so great at SIP configuration but I didn't have much luck with a Cisco 7940G after a few hours of editing config files and uploading them to the phone via TFTP, I did get it to register though
