Vigor 2820n with Vodafone 3G was created by mw273
I am looking to set the unit up with WAN via a vodafone USB 3G dongle (Huawei E172). The vodafone service is a contract and works via my laptop. I have configured the folowing in WAN / Internet Access / WAN2:
PPP Client enable
SIM PIN - left blank
APN Name - internet (have 'applyed' this)
Modem dial string - ATDT*99#
PPP Username - web
PPP Password - web
However, the 3G modem will not come up.
Online Status shows WAN2 PPPoE - No response from server side.
Has anyone else got this running?
Thanks
Mark

Try leaving the APN as the default and not entering "internet". This seems to work with Vodafone and the 2820. Make sure the WAN2 is enabled too. You need to switch off the router, disconnect the ADSL line if you have one connected, plug in the dongle and switch the 2820 back on again. Make sure the dongle's light goes blue, if it doesn't you are not getting a 3G signal. Wait 5 or 10 minutes.
When the 2820 sees the dongle is a bit variable but once it's connected to a dongle it's ok from then on and can work well. I get the same problem with the 2800.
I'm trying to figure out a more reliable way of getting Draytek's to see the 3G dongle. It can take a while and a lot of scratching your head as to why it doesn't see it.
