OK tried downloading firmware from draytek.com and .co.uk again, still coming up with invalid filename.
Does this not work on a Mac?

With older firmwares, you have to use IE to get the web interface firmware update to work, something to do with a javascript error. It's not an issue with anything after 3.3.0.1 I think though.

tried
renaming to firmware.all and putting in root - no go, same error
have no ie browser so cannot try that.....seems very silly not to be mac orientated.....
tis version v2820_v03321_232201_A.all
any other ideas?
am actually just trying to update firmware so my 3g dongle works as well, router works fine and has done for ages, just desperately need the 3g at the moment....
many thanks

Did you rename the directory the firmware was in too? You might need to do that, or place the firmware in your home directory before uploading it.
I'm on a Mac too, and when i encountered the same bug as you i upgraded by uploading the firmware via FTP. Once it's uploaded the router will know what to do with it. There's a guide somewhere in the forums to doing it via FTP.
Unfortunately a later firmware seems to have messed up upgrading via FTP, but they had fixed the Javascript bug by then (i still have to use Firefox to upgrade though as firmware upgrades don't seem to like Safari, although everything else works fine with Safai).
