Hi folks,

I have got two internet connections coming into the building with a Vigor 2820 on each. My plan was to connect Router 2 from the gigabit port into the WAN2 port on Router 1 and load balance on Router 1.

Is this possible??

I have now configured two Vigor 2820 routers (Router 1 - 192.168.11.254, Router 2 - 192.168.12.254) and a Vigor 2930 Dual WAN router (Router 3 - 192.168.10.254), WAN1 - 192.168.11.1, WAN2 - 192.168.12.1

So Router 1 is plugged into Router 3 WAN1, and Router 2 is plugged into Router 3 WAN2.

Everything is working without a problem.

However, on Router 1 we have 8 users which VPN in and the problem I have got is they pickup a 192.168.11.0 address and they need to be able to access resources on the 192.168.10.0 network.

I thought I could configure a static route so that router 1 could communicate with the 192.168.10.0 network and this doesnt work.

Please could someone help me out.

It looks like you have money to burn!

I do not have a 2820 but they have a built in fail-over mechanism and a second (ethernet) WAN port. The cheapest way to have done it would be to have one 2820 with one ADSL line. Connect the WAN port of the 2820 to another ADSL modem (say a Draytek 120) in bridge mode and you're off. Now that you have 2 * 2820, see if the 2820 can be put into bridge mode (look for connection type something like PPPoE) so it just works like a modem. If it does, put one 2820 into bridge mode and connect it to your second ADSL line. Connect one of its LAN ports to the WAN port of the other 2820 and you should be away with none of this double-natting you are doing now. Your VPN should also work as you want.

I'd be happy to look after the spare 2930 you now have.......

From the example you have put there, would it be possible to put both 2820 routers in bridge mode and allow the 2930 to do everything??

As long as the 2820 will go into bridge mode, yes you could, but what is the point? It is a waste of the 2820's capability.

Personally, I'd go for the 2820 plus another ADSL modem (which does not have to be a Draytek) and if it is not mission critical, I'd sell the other 2820 and 2930 (or take one home so I can VPN into work with a LAN<>LAN connection). If the 2820 is mission critical, I'd keep the other one as a back up and sell the 2930. Alternatively you could ditch both 2820's and keep the 2930 and get 2 ADSL modems. I'm not sure I'd like this unless the ADSL modems can have different LAN IP's for their ethernet connection.
