Alternate modem on 2820N WAN2 advice was created by davegarratt
Has anyone tried something other that a Draytek Vigor 100/110/120 on the WAN2 port of a 2820N. My modem(s) (100 + 120) just don't seem to sync as fast as the BT Open Reach engineers antique BT Voyager – which is very annoying.
If somone has a success with something else then I would like to give it a try.
Many thanks
Dave

Hi Dave,
I have had great success using a Netgear DG834 V4 router in ''Modem Only Mode''. Out of every modem I have tried, and Ive nearly tried them all, this is the best, works very well with ADSL2+ too.
It is such a stable combination I have deployed across multiple companys without problems.
Hope this helps
John

I've got a Vigor 2800 serving the WAN2 port on my 2820 and it does the job fine - not sure if the modem in it is the same as the ones you've had problems with, but you did ask!
Cheers

I have a 2820Vn & a 120 on WAN2, they're only a week old so early days but seem to be working OK.
The only pain is that I don't think I can access the web server on the 120 when it's connected directly to the 2820Vn so I can't see how the ADSL link is behaving etc.
Cheers Ian

You can access the 120 if you're using a PPPoA connection rather than an MPoA one, just connect its LAN port to the 2820's LAN port, then connect one of the 2820's LAN ports to the WAN2 port If you put the 120 in the same address range and turn off DHCP on it, you can then access its web interface.
I use a DG834GT (sky branded) for the WAN2 connection, works well for me.
