Well I ordered a 2710Vn, received a 2710n but aren't particularly bothered except for the fact that the QoS led on the box is 'on' and my upload speed has dropped from around 34*Kb with my DG834GT router to around 25*Kb with the 2710n.

As the 2710, 2710n & 2710Vn all use the same firmware, I'm assuming QoS is reserving bandwidth for VOIP even though I don't have that model.
I think Draytek have been rather lazy about this, they could have easily had 2 firmwares with QoS disabled on the 2710 & 2710n.

To unsult me even more, after paying twice as much for this router than I did with the trusty DG834GT, I can't even disable QoS....

What logic is this?

Are Draytek mental or am I missing something here?

It might be that despite QoS not really being used on the router, the bandwidth reservation for it is still in place, to change that, access the router's telnet interface and enter these commands:

adsl txpct 100
adsl rxpct 100
adsl reboot

which will put the tx and rx rate up to 100% for the adsl connection.

For anyone interested, it appears that QoS is implemented on the 2710n and more than likely also on the 2710Vn & 2710, it's just that Draytek have removed the gui on the uk models!

If you're willing to work through it and experiment, you can configure it via telnet commands. For those who simply want to turn it off completely (it comes enabled by default) then telnet into your box and simply type each line below followed by enter.

Code:

qos setup -m 1 sys commit sys reboot

Your box will reboot without QoS.

You have to telnet into the router.
Assuming you are on windows;

Start menu -> run -> type cmd and press enter.
Then in the black window type telnet (address of router, e.g. telnet 192.168.1.1) and press enter.

You will then be asked for your password for the router, type it in and press enter. You now enter the commands above it you want to disable QoS.
