A customer of ours has the following scenario:-

Local subnet of 192.168.0.0/24 with router 1 being 192.168.0.254 and connected to ADSL etc successfully. We have been asked to connect to another subnet of 10.15.86.224/28 which is in the same building. Therefore we bought a second Vigor 2820. 1st IP was set to 192.168.0.253 and 2nd IP was set to 10.15.86.232. RIP was enabled for second subnet and we can successfully communicate with devices on the 10.15.86.224/28 network. Phyiscally, cable for subnet 1 is plugged into one port in the switch (built into Vigor 2820) and the cable for subnet 2 is plugged into another port on the same switch on the Vigor 2820.

However, what we cannot do, is communicate from the 2nd subnet to devices on the 1st subnet. For example, on a machine with IP 10.15.86.228 and gateway of 10.15.86.232. We can ping the draytek on both subnets (10.15.86.232 and 192.168.0.253) but we cannot ping anything else on the 192.168.0.0/24 network from 10.15.86.224/28.

FYI, firewalls on computer devices are turned off.

2 questions:-
1. Have I got the methodology correct, or should subnet 2 be plugged into WAN2?
2. Can you see anything in the above config that may cause this?

1. Yes, you need to use the WAN2 port for on of the subnets. There is no routing between ethernet ports, so you have to go through a WAN port.

2. I think you have a fundamental issue, as both subnets will have 2 gateways. So if the default gateway is the router with the internet connection, then any communication attempt to the second subnet is going to get routed out to the internet.
