That depends.

Does the second modem do:
- PPPoA -> PPPoE pass through? (if its a Draytek, it might, but your linksys won't), then you put in the auth details on the Dual WAN Router
- Half Bridging? (see modem list above), then you put the auth details into the modem and enable half bridging, then set the Dual WAN router up to use DHCP.

Thanks again Kwiksand. Ok, I've gone and purchased a Vigor 120 modem and have that and the 2820 with me here (though I'm not at the site where the ADSL is just now). I'm trying to set things up so in theory I can plugin and go when I get to the site but am still unsure on one or two things.

Can anyone verify if this setup is correct?

The private IP address of the modem is 192.168.2.1.
The 1st LAN private IP address of the 2820 is 192.168.1.1.
I've enabled the second LAN on the 2820 and given it a private IP of 192.168.2.2 (so it's on the same subnet as the modem)(.

I've disabled DHCP on the 120 modem.

Does that sound about right?

Also, regarding the load balancing policy; I have a simple scenario. I want users A, B, C to use WAN1 and users X, Y, Z to use WAN2. To achieve this I know I used the load balancing policy on the 2820 but, should the source and destination IP's be the same? For example, let's say users ABC have IP's 192.168.1.10-12 and users XYZ have IP's 192.168.2.10-12.

Would I setup the rule as:

Protocol: TCP
WAN interface: WAN1
Src IP Start: 192.168.1.10
Src IP End: 192.168.1.12
Dest IP Start: 192.168.1.10
Dest IP End: 192.168.1.12
Dest Port Start: <blank>
Dest Port End: <blank>

?

Does that sound correct? If anyone can tell me what looks wrong about it, that'd be great.

Cheers.

Load balance policy only controls outgoing connections so Destination IP would be an address across a VPN or the internet howeverrrr - the Vigor 120 only does PPPoA pass-through, what you'll need to do is set the WAN2 connection on the 2820 to PPPoE and enter the username/password details for the ADSL connection there.

The 120 will then pass it through without changing any settings on it, as it's preconfigured.

Hi Voodle,

Yeah, I understand about inputting the login details on the 2820 but I'm just unclear on whether or not my address setup is correct. Regarding the load balance policy, I'm still confused I'm afraid. :( In my scenario, I can't work out what the destination should be. Is it my public IP?

Hi wiggum,

I'm thinking you probably don't need the destination at all. just set the source IP's you want to use WAN1, and then those that are using WAN2.

Test on each by going to checkmyip.com. Seems to work fine here.
