:( Newbie has lost the plot setting up FTP to NAS.. help please

Hi guys,

I am really sorry to ask a dumb newbie question thats probably been asked a million times but I have a wrong setting thats giving me grief.
I really would appreciate some nice person getting me started correctly so I can later isolate where I've gone wrong....

I want to allow FTP through to my Netgear NAS.

A few months ago I had a good working FTP Internet through to my NAS.
I had to reset the Vigor 2820vn, and I have never been able to get FTP going again.

I have to reset the Vigor again very soon to ensure a clean firmware update, and so I want to document the main steps I take.

I would appreciate help where am I going wrong.
I have re-read the manual etc, and googled, but I am unable to get FTP going. I don't mean USB FTP. (I don't think this is needed)

1. Set up my Netgear NAS as 192.168.1.65 with DNS being controlled from the Vigor 2820vn
2. Set up Vigor 192.168.1.1.
3. Setup 'shares' on the Netgear NAS e.g. 'APPS' with a password of 'test'

4. Here's where I am not sure...
5. Somehow set up FTP on the Vigor to point to the Netgear NAS on 192.168.1.65.

Can someone throw me a lifeline?

Thanks in advance!

I assume you want to access your NAS from outside your network then you need to use port mapping to redirect the vigors external port to the internal ip and port on the NAS box. Don't know what port the netgear uses but my Lacie is 80. You should also bind the NAS box MAC to a fixed IP so every time the router restarts then the NAS box allways gets the same IP. You need to ensure that the remote management ports for the 2820 don't conflict as well.

Thanks Howard,

I'll follow this up.

I have taken the pluge and reset the Vigor to default and then I'm gradually getting things back up... the difference this time is that I'm documenting things.

Thanks
