Backup file as editable text file was created by mph
Having the backup file as a text file would enable:
1) Easier deployment of multiple routers;
2) Easier editing of complex configuration;
3) Resolving problems where the configuration is incompatible between firmware updates.

I think that this will also help, or maybe a separate application that runs on windows that allows you to edit the backup file settings.

Second this... Its been requested for *years* though AFAIK...
An app to "emulate" a firmware rev would be useful - or just a human readable file so you can see what has been set and/or remove any of the infamous "corruption" (support seem to always suggest a .rst flash to "remove it" if there is a bug they cant reproduce...) that seems to creep into such a complex config file!
