Assigning a static IP address to devices was created by bradley porter
Dear all

For VoIP devices, I would like to assign the phone a spare public IP that I have available (assigned already within WAN Aliases) - however, I am unsure on how to do this so the device bypasses all the NAT functions of the 20820. The reason behind this is that VoIP devices run best (apparently) when they have there own IP address assigned to them and bypass any proxy's).

If I want to assign a device a public IP so that it has direct access to the Internet then what is the proper procedure? Do I use the DMZ function and 'map' the public IP to the private address on the phone? Or is there another and more appropriate method to ensure the device is almost 'directly connected' to the internet?

Thanks in advance.

Brad

Kind regards,

Err, go to NAT >> Address Mapping. Select the WAN IP address, then type in the destination private IP address, and leave the netmask (and probably the protocol) alone.. AND don't forget to tick 'enable' ;-)
