V2820n broadband extremely slow was created by rich2010
I've just upgraded from a Netgear DG834GT to a Draytek 2820n. The ADSL (Sky Broadband) syncs at the same speed as the Netgear, but when I run speedtest I'm getting really slow ping/dl compared to the Netgear

The Netgear is pinging the closest server to me in 68ms - dl : 3.55Mb/s ul : 0.35

The same test on the Draytek results in ping of 390ms - dl : 1.05Mb/s ul 0.36

I'd read the poor PCPro review before buying but thought they must have it configured incorrectly, but I'm not so sure now.

These are my details

Firmware Version : 3.3.4.1_232201
Build Date/Time : Sep 8 2010 15:39:30
ADSL Firmware Version : 232201_A Hardware: Annex A

ADSL Status Mode State Up Speed Down Speed SNR Margin Loop Att.
ADSL2(G.992.3) SHOWTIME 606857 4091320 7 53

QoS is off, VPN is off

Anything else to check ?

Thanks

Try the 3.3.5.1 firmware from here:
ftp://ftp.draytek.com/Vigor2820/Firmware/V3.3.5.1/annexA/2820V3.3.5.1A211801/
The speed issue looks like something that affects other people with that firmware from reading the forums

I was successfully using my 2820 but recently have noticed that the connection is very slow. It is testing at barely 1.5Mbps download, which is only about a third of what I have previously seen. I swapped it for an old BT Voyager 220v to test and that immediately produced 3.6Mbps, connected in exactly the same way so it's not a line or microfilter issue.

At first I thought that nothing had changed that might have caused it to slow down, but then I remembered I did update the firmware a while ago to 3.3.4.1 and although I cannot remember exactly when, it is possible the speed issue started at that time and I just didn't notice immediately. It is nothing to do with the Vigor's config which I know was not changed in all that time.

I have just read a comment on this forum about others having speed problems with 3.3.4.1. Is this a known issue? Can anyone confirm that updating to 3.3.5.1 cures it?

I'm concerned about updating to a non UK specific firmware, but is this the cure to my current performance issues? What else could it be?

Just updated to 3.3.5.1 and my download speed has increased over 3 TIMES. It is now running at 4.650 whereas under 3.3.4.1 it was apparently stuck at 1.500

Since NOTHING else has been changed, this is definitely down to the firmware so I suggest anyone still running 3.3.4.1 have a good look at the speed you're currently getting and consider updating to 3.3.5.1

Mind you, I guess I may come across other problems, but none so far.

I tried 3.3.5.1 but unfortunately nothing changed for me, sent it back in the end :(
