2820 - Dual WAN - 120 Doesnt work HELP! was created by vtivti
HI all,
I have a 2820 Dual WAN. WAN1 is fine connects using BT straight out of router.
WAN2 I jsut changed to a 120 modem and cannot get it to work. Its an ADSL2+ line from Virgin and was workign on my netgear router fine this AM.
What settings do I need to the 120 and for the 2820?
Multi-PVCs??? Other setting - sorry I dont have a clue what to do here.
I changed the 120 modem to 192.168.1.1 but thats it.
And selected ppoe from the 2820 and put in credentials but just stays on Message [ Starting PPP ]

Are you using the default IP address for the 2820 (ie 192.168.1.1)?
I would put the 120 modem on a different subnet so that you will be able log into it with a browser via the 2820. So, private IP Address 192.168.2.1
Set the DHCP server in the 120 to dish out a single address of 192.168.2.10 (this will become the IP Address of the WAN2 port)
Log into the 2820 and browse to WAN and then Internet Access. Click on WAN2 to edit it.
Click the PPPoE tab and click on the Disable radio button. Click OK to save it.
Click on the Static or Dymanic IP tab and click the Enable radio button.
Make sure that Obtain an IP Address Automatically is checked.
Leave the credentials boxes blank.
Click ok to save, and the router will restart. I usually wait till the router has come back up and the physically power it off and back on again.
When you log back into the 2820 and look at WAN2 settings, you should see that the IP address, Subnet Mask and Gateway fields are all now populated with the details the 120 Modem has given it.
That should get it working for you.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for the help, but the point of me spending on the 120 was to be able to just use it as a modem and passthrough the external IP.
How do I achieve this?

I am not sure what you mean about passthrough the external IP?
Those settings above are to allow you to use your modem for internet access via the WAN2 port. Do those settings not work?
What am I missing here?

All im doing with those setting is natting. All I want is the 120 to do the dialing and pass the traffic through transparently then the 2820 do everything else. I cant see why I would want another NAT device there.

My understanding (and experience) is that those settings do what you
want to do - pass through the traffic transparently.
I had problems setting this up, and those settings were given to me by Draytek support and worked for me.
So what is happening now? What is the status of the WAN2 port?
