Restricting bandwidth of PS3 was created by daveray
Hi

I use a 2820n and a 50mbps cable modem. I use this for my home based office and it works well.

Sadly my son loves his PS3 and plays a lot of on-line games. I need to find a way to allocate him a fixed bandwidth of 5mbps down and 0.5mbps up so he doesn't start to affect my work. I have noticed that at times it can slow my response times on the work I am doing. I trade the sports markets on Betfair so I need the quickest response I can get.

I looked at QoS but can I specify xxx.xxx.168.72 as the start and also xxx.xxx.168.72 as the end IP?

I am just looking for the best way to do this

Thanks in advance

Dave

Yes, you can limit his bandwidth this way - using the bandwith limit feature.
I found out that in my home, if you enable the bandwith limiting feature, this will reduce the overall performance of the router.

But, there is a better way, Disable the bandwidth limiting feature, but use the QoS feature, and give yourself a minimum Bandwidth.
This way, if you dont need the bandwidth everyone else can use it.

In the QoS setup, create a class with your IP as the source, destination any, and, give yourself 50%
make a make a class with your sons IP, and, give it 10% bandwidth guarantee.
Make a third class, source any, destination any, add http, https, pop3 protocol or, whatever is needed, and give it 20%

Hi Nobody, thanks for the detailed reply.

I tried the bandwidth limiter and like you I soon realised it had slowed everything. I am mid trading today so later I will try your method and see how it goes.

Thanks again for taking the time reply, very good of you.
