Dual WAN - Annex M ? was created by dt2
Dear all

We've been running for a while now without issue with a 2820n and an Opal Business Service on WAN1 and a BT Option 1 on WAN2 via a Draytek 100. The Opal is the best performer but they (TalkTalk) won't offer an Annex M service. BT's Option 1 was a basic ADSL and only used for backup but when I enquired about better services, they've offered me ADSL2+ which will give up to 1.5Mbps via Annex M. So it's now gone live and works but I've left it connected to WAN2 without any settings changes and consequently the performance boost has yet to be seen.

Could anyone kindly advise me please of the necessary steps to enable me to run the BT service with Annex M ?

Is it likely that I'll have to put the BT service on WAN1 to configure Annex M or should the Draytek 100 deal with it and "Pass through" the Annex M signals ?

These are the 2820n's current versions - again will I need to change any of this ?

Model Name : Vigor2820n
Firmware Version : 3.3.4.1_232201
Build Date/Time : Sep 8 2010 15:39:30
ADSL Firmware Version : 232201_A Hardware: Annex A

Any help would be gratefully received.

Many thanks

David

See if you can change the Vigor 100 from Multimode to ADSL2+ Annex M. Sometimes they don't 'negotiate' the "best" connection speed.

Thanks - I changed from Multimode to ADSL2+ Annex M on the Draytek 100 but it wouldn't connect. Put it back to Multimode and it connects straightaway and synchs at about 1.2MB. I've contacted BT and it seems that the service is an ADSL2+ offering only and they can't offer Annex M on my exchange after all.

I was hoping for a synch at 1.5MB and speedtest performance of about 1.2 as I'm adjacent to the exchange but it doesn't look as though I'll get above 1.2 synch and 900k speedtest.

Thanks anyway.

There's an updated firmware - version 3.3.5.2 which might be worth a shot. The modem code 2471201 is recommended for ADSL2.

Vigor2820V3.3.5.2A2471201.zip on the UK downloads page as: http://www.draytek.co.uk/support/download/v2820_3352_2471201_A.zip

If you swap the WAN1 and WAN2 over do you notice much of a difference?
