I understand the WAN2 port is 100Mb, would this be OK with the Virgin Media 100Mb service, or do I need to upgrade. Would the internal firewall keep up at this speed?

The router's actual throughput tops out at 65Mbps, maybe a little bit more if you turn off the firewall but you'd need a 2920 to make full use of that speed.
