Vigor 2830n slow connection rate was created by mach2infinity
For about a month, I experienced a problem with my broadband connection. On 'day 1', the connection kept dropping out repeatedly, the following day it only happened for a few minutes. However, since then my connection rate (down-stream) was stuck at 544Kbps (whereas usually it's between 1.5-1.8Mbps) which gave me an IP profile of 350Kbps (from using BT Speedtester). This occured about a week or so after I first started using the Vigor 2830n. I switched back to my old DLink DSL-G624T router to narrow down the problem, and when ran I the speedtester, it showed my connection rate as 1.7Mbps, which is what it should be. Is it possible that I chose the incorrect settings somewhere? Or could it be faulty? My settings were:

VPI : 0
VCI : 38
Connection type: PPPoA (VC Mux)
Mode: G.DMT

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Update: Here's a more up-to-date screenshot of my ADSL stats. I noticed that QoS was enabled (OUT) on my WAN1 connection. I've disabled it as it had 1Mbps as the limit. I've kept the stats page open and at the moment it's showing this:

Hi,

From your Onlinestatus screenshot, we can see a high value for Loop (65).

I can recommend :

- check ADSL filter / cables
- try other firmware's with different ADSL modem codes

hope this helps,

regards,

rj

Thanks for the reply. We don't use filters since we have the 'ADSL v.1.0' filtered faceplate installed and I noticed an improved connection rate with the Dlink router, so I've ruled out any cable/wiring issue. It has to be the router itself, I'll try the different firmware. One thing: on the draytek.co.uk downloads page it only lists 2471201, 211801 and 232201 as the codes to download. Where as draytek.com has 211011 (standard), 2121501, 2211201, 2431301, 243601, 243701 and 244001. Should I also try the ones on draytek.com or just stick with the ones on draytek.co.uk? Thing is 2471201 is listed for ADSL2+ Annex M routers, where mine is Annex A.

Interesting to compare the Vigor 2830n stats with ones from my older D-Link DSL-G624T router below:

The line attentuation is 4 dB less on the DSL-G624T. Which is strange as far as I understand , the line attenuation is meant to be the distance between the router and the exchange isn't it?

I'm tempted to flash the Vigor 2830n with the 211011 (standard) firmware. Even though I think the 211801 firmware is better suited for my router seeing as it's described as "For line speeds of less than 4Mbps, on lower quality lines a modem code with more conservative paramaters".

I did try the latest 3.3.7sb firmware (modems codes 232201 and 211801) but to no avail. And I still see a lower SNR margin and higher bandwidth with my D-link router.
