vigor 2820 no DNS was created by redwood
Hi
I have a Vigor 2820n, Recently about every 1-2 hours I get no dns on our PCs, skype etc continues to work but no webpages, until I reboot router, I called support at ISP who got me to use google dns and try a few things, they now are blaming my router. I have changed to my old Belkin N1 vision for now and so far no DNS loss. anybody any ideas please?

Have you updated to the latest firmware? There was an issue with DNS caching in a previous F/W iirc. If the issue persists, then i would RMA the device as faulty.

Hi
thank you so much, I have indeed loaded the latest firmware, My ISP also blame the router, however I fear it maybe something my son does (gaming) and he has various things on his PC to do with gaming and I notice that it doesnt happen when his pc is on.... but...it is driving me crazy , so frustrating.

Hmm, interesting. You say the fault _doesn't_ occur when your sons PC is on? ie, there is no issue when your son turns his PC off - correct?

If I understand that correct, then my conclusion would be that your sons PC is swamping your router with requests for DNS lookups. More than the router can deal with, hence the DNS server crashing. This is easily rectified. Manually switch his PC to use Google's DNS server of 8.8.4.4 and 8.8.8.8.
