2820Vn loss of routing from WAN2 was created by john rumm
This is an ongoing problem that is driving me mad! :(

My setup has a 2820Vn with Firmware Version : 3.3.7_211801, Build Date/Time : Oct 27 2011 11:18:12, ADSL Firmware Version 211801_A Hardware: Annex, and a Vigor 120 modem, firmware 3.2.4.4, ADSL Firmware 321311_A Hardware: Annex A

From a reset of the 2820, all works fine for a time. However some time later (a few hours typically, although sooner if lots of traffic is routed), the 2820 seems to lose the ability to reliably route most information back from the V120.

With web traffic, the result observed by users is very slow DNS resolution and initial connection to web sites (10 - 20 secs not uncommon), and then slow / incomplete completion of web pages. (traffic via WAN1 is fine)

For example, with a load balance policy set to force ICMP traffic over WAN2, a ping to a public internet site like google.com will exhibit 100% packet loss as seen by the PC. I have conducted a wireshark log at the interface to the V120, and confirm that the ping does get routed to the 120, and the reply is received promptly. However logging on the PC shows it never or rarely returns there (upping the timeout on the ping to 20 secs may see the occasional response). Also using the routers ping capability on the diagnostics page, the same results are obtained - the router itself can reliably ping external hosts through the V120 and get responses.

Resetting the 2820 (leaving the V120 alone), fixes it temporarily. I have tried swapping the WAN connections around, different firmware revisions etc. While I have seen changes in the proportion of packet loss, nothing seems to fix it.

Last reflash of the 2820, i did a complete reset and reentered all parameters from scratch rather than using a previous configuration.

Any thoughts?

Cheers,
John

Not sure if it helps but there is a 3.3.7.1 (2012) updated firmware out for the 2820. Regards, Neal
