Recently my FTTC broadband connection was regraded from 40mbit to 76mbit. Initially everything was fine, 76mbit sync, no interleave, super fast speed tests etc.

Then there was a long (2 hour +) outage one night at Preston a week or so ago, and since then, PPPoE has been unstable (sync on the BT modem is I am told stable, though has since resynced at a lower speed with interleave on).

I can't say if PPPoE was unstable prior to that or not for sure, but I had not noticed any issues.

My ISP (Zen) are trying to point the finger at the V2820Vn as the reason for the PPPoE dropouts, saying that its not suitable for Fibre broadband.

My questions are:

- Should the V2828Vn be able to cope with 76mbit PPPoE broadband?

- Is there anything in syslog I should be looking out for to help diagnose where the problem lies?

Thanks

From syslog around the time of one of the dropouts I have the following when it tries to reconnect:-

Jun 7 12:57:55 192.168.5.1 V2820: WAN2 PPPoE <== Protocol:CHAP(c223) Failure Identifier:0x01 CHAP authentication failure, unit 2463 ##
Jun 7 12:57:55 192.168.5.1 V2820: WAN2 PPPoE ==> V:1 T:1 PADT ID:0
Jun 7 12:57:55 192.168.5.1 V2820: WAN2 PPPoE ==> Protocol:LCP(c021) TermReq Identifier:0x04 ##

the it seems to be stuck in a loop trying to authenticate until it manages to reconnect 5-10 minutes later.

Much of my problems seem to have been related to the up detection, it was set to use ping rather than arp. Trying a different IP didn't help (e.g. 8.8.8.8) but switching back to arp detection, its been up 80hrs now, whereas before it was dropping 3 or 4 times a day.
