2820N FTTP Question was created by cranky
Hi,

I am looking at getting a 2820n off a popular auction site, I have a quick question I was hoping someone could answer for me.

I have BT FTTP - 100Mbps, I understand I can connect the 2820 to the openreach modem via the WAN2 connection and use PPPoE, From reading the differences between the 2820 and 2830 it looks like the max WAN throughput on the 2820 is around the 50Mbps mark, does that appply to the WAN2? Basically I want to make sure I can make full use of my 100Mbps connection. I saw somewhere that the last firmware for the 2830 enabled it to go to around 130 should the line support it.

i have seen in the past this post

community.virginmedia.com/t5/Up-to-100Mb-broadband/50mb-upgraded-to-
100mb-worse-service-depending-on-time-of-day/td-p/367109/page/2
(join the 2 lines together)

That post is since last year BUT personal i don't think an update will give higher speed as the wan 2 is 10/100 Base-Tx
but then again some one (same post) manage to get 90mb (probably qos, dos, firewall etc are all off) but still seems the 2820 is strangling

note a post before the end

That is correct, the maximum throughput on the 2820 series is 65Mbps,you would need to look at the 2130, 2830, 2920, 2955 or 3200 seriesrouters. The 2130 has the highest throughput at 800Mbps, the othermodels support up to 150Mbps (2830, 2920, 3200) or 100Mbps (2955).
