(I searched through the forum - couldn't find anything that similar! )

I have an issue with my Draytek 2850Vn - it is only allowing me less than half my broadband speed!
Hope someone can point me in the right direction.

I have had VirginMedia 100Mbps broadband for around 3 weeks. If I connect my laptop (or desktop) using a Gigabit port directly to my Virgin SuperHub, I consistently get 80-100Mbps speeds - using a whole range of broadband speed test sites. (Both during peak and off-peak hours)
Wireless only seems to affect the ping slightly - I still get 80-90Mbps when connected to the wireless of the SuperHub.

But - If I enable Modem-Only mode on the SuperHub, and connect the WAN port on the Draytek 2850Vn to the correct port on the SuperHub, I consistently receive only 30-35Mbps on both my desktop and wireless/wired laptop.

I tried disabling the firewall and DoS options on the 2850Vn - this makes no difference whatsoever.

I am running firmware 3.6.2_2471201.

Can anyone please suggest anything to try? I have contacted Draytek support, and am awaiting a reply.

The annoying thing is that Draytek market the 2850Vn as having a Gigabit WAN port and a firewall that can handle up to 100Mbps... :x

QoS is also disabled.

Changed MTU on WAN2 to 1272 - seems to have increased speed by 25Mbps or so...

i am using it (the n model) with the SH in modem mode
i have find the R36 VM firmware not so good really
But I am getting all speed (98-105 mb) using the 2850n but with about 6-8 ms ping more than the SH it self

Make sure you are not affect from VM's congestion (that will lower speed at peak times)so set up a monitor to watch your connection

How i have set it

WAN >> General Setup and disable (no) the wan 1 & wan 3) if not using them
Enable wan 2 with always on, click ok down page to save settings

WAN >> Internet Access > wan2 then choice static or dynamic ip or Click details tab page next of it
Then at DHCP static or dynamic ip page, click enable top left
MTU set it at 1500
Right ...click obtain ip automatic and down page click ok to save settings...thats it

I have find out that the wan 2 at 2850 is more sensitive than my 2920 (i mean if is even slightly congestion the 2850 will not hit easy up to 100mb - no problem slightly congestion for the SH or 2920)) but for me is little better (for wan 2) the 3.6.1 or 3.6.2 firmware for UK SEG ONLY annex A(232201) or the standard annex A (211801) but i really prefer the UK 3.6.1 UK SEG 232201 because seems was less trouble when i had it

(if you planning change firmware to the one i mentioned do a reset from the pin hall and then load the firmware you want with the rst file, then when you load the firmware do a reset again)...that should clear bugs if you was keep changing firmwares to see which one was going to work better

Also disable and QoS because by default is set to 25% only

I tried the 232201 and STD firmwares (used the rst file each time)

The STD seems slightly quicker - but using either I can now consistently download at 60Mbps - i.e. 2 x game demos downloading simultaneously - around 2.9Mb/s per download.
Speed tests on SpeedTest.net are also faster - around 60Mbps each time.
I also tried changing MTU to 1500 for both firmwares - actually seemed to slow downloads down (only 5% or so, rather than using an MTU of 1272)

I tried through my SH again during the same off-peak period, though - and I can get 80-105Mbps consistently - including game demo d/l's from the BlueYonder page - around 4Mb/s per download...

Draytek support still haven't got back to me - must be slow over the weekend... yawn.
