I am looking to turn off, disable or otherwise fully block external Telnet access to our Draytek Vigor 2800 ADSL router.

We need to be able to port scan the external network and NOT be able to see Telnet service available.

Any advice appreciated.

Go to System Maintenance >> Management and untick the "Telnet Server" option, ok & let it reboot then the Telnet port should be gone. I tested it with nmap across the internet.

This is not an option on the 2800 We have many clients, most are on the 2820 and above, that one has the option. The 2800 has the port number settings, but no on/off switch for the management protocols.

Whilst not the answer you want, couldn't you just put it on a really wired port that's unlikely to be guessed? 62497 or something?

Ah... it is an option on my 2800! I have Firmware v2.8.2
