Ap700 & 2820n. No Ip or access. was created by dlogan83
Hi. I have a vigor 2820n and an AP700. I can't get wds bride or universal repeat to work. The router is connected my sbs2003 server. Dhcp is controlled by the server. I can get an ip sometimes from the server via my ap700 when set to universal repeater and I can never get a connection when using wds.

Should I enable something on either the firewall setting on Sbs or on the router to allow of to pass.?

Or could I allow the ap700 somehow to give out its own ip is it was able to be isolated from the network using a second ssid?

Don't know of anyone has come across this.

Thanks

David.

Quick update. I can get up address ok. But no access to the web or beyond the router. Any ideas?

I had similar problems using a AP700 and a 2820n (in my case the 2820n was the DHCP server). In the end I discovered it was due to a poor wireless signal between the AP700 and the router. It is not possible to view the signal strength or data transfer rate on either device so is difficult to daignose. In my case the AP700 was only 3m away from the 2820n but separated by a dense floor, that was enough to degrade the signal and present the symptoms you describe. In the end i had to run the AP700 in AP mode with a cat 5 cable to the 2820n. Rig up a tempoary cable and test it in the other mode.

Thanks. It was the signal strength. I added a couple of high gain antennas at both ends and that solved the problem.

Hi, I've had what seems to be a very similar issue when trying to use an AP700 as a universal repeater for a 2820. I could connect to the AP700 from the 2820 but can't get to the router or internet from any device connected to AP700. It wasn't the range as I had the devices 5m apart in line of sight.
Decided to try setting up the AP700 as a bridge, just by way of testing, and succesfully connected using the WDS bridge function. What's confusing me now is that the AP700 seems to be acting as a repeater!
I'm happy because it's doing what I wanted, but I'd be grateful if someone would be kind enough to help me understand what's going on, in lay terms please!
