Hi guys, I am trying to do something that is in my view basic and cannot get my head around the way vlans work on the draytek 2955. Having done a fair amount of searching both here and google, I am wasting too much time and decide to reach out to you guys. PS - I did consider calling telephone support until I noticed 77p per min! Ouch.

The Setup
1x Draytek 2955 WAN1 (connected all working)
1x Cisco 2950 L2 switch connected to P1 on 2955 (192.168.2.0/24)
1x Cisco 2960G switch connected to P2 on 2955 (192.168.1.0 /24)

2955 Configs
LAN > General > LAN IP Config = 1st Subnet 192.168.1.1 /24
LAN > General > LAN IP Config = 2nd Subnet 192.168.2.1 /24 (Routing Usage Enable)
RIP Tried all options to be honest, but currently disabled.
DHCP Server Config > 192.168.2.100 / DGW 192.168.2.1
VLAN > Enabled, P2,3,4 = Vlan0
VLAN > Enabled, P1 = Vlan1

Testing Testing 1,2,1,2
Anything connected to 2960G connects to internet ok. The devices get their ip from my SBS2k8 server.

New server 2008R2 Ent connected to 2950 gets an ip address from 2955 DHCP server subnet 2, I can ping 192.168.2.1(DGW) I can even ping 192.168.1.1, I just cannot get beyond the default gateway.

Where are Vlan's configured though? How does the 2955 know what network Vlan0 or vlan1 is?

Like I say, in my view this really is a basic thing, but understanding this vlan thing is hard compared to programming my Cisco network. If you have a 2955 with Vlan's working, I would greatly appreciate your experiences. Lastly Firmware of the router is 3.3.0

Hello,

the second subnet isn't for use as you are wanting. It's for when you have a range of public IP's from your ISP. I know it's deceptive with the prefilled 192.168.2.1 and the responses on that IP.

Sorry, but what you want to do (more than one IP range, as I understand it) isn't possible with the 2955.

Neal, just to add I do have a few static public ip's, so going back to what you was saying, if there is another way I can do this, then great.

I am working out a migration plan from one live server to a new server which will then be running Hyper-V and virtual server. So my home lab is the place I test these before putting into my business environment.

Ideally, I would rather keep both networks running and still test this new virtualized network. Happy to hear any thoughts or ideas you might have.
