Vigor 5510 as firewall for small datacenter was created by roberto.varona
Hi everybody.

Should be possible to use a 5510 as firewall router for a small datacenter ?

Scenario will be this one.

A couple of vmware hosts running some vm´s. Hosts Subnet=192.168.10.x

Each vm runs 2008 server and a propietary software for an accesories´s bussiness. Each bussiness can be only one location o some more distributed.

Each vm, in a different subnet (different server for different users). VM´s subnet..193.1(this indicate server1).1(indicates first subnet).100(one server per bussiness). Ok, 193.1.1.100 for first server, 193.2.1.100 for second, and so.

Then, each server will need one o more tunnels, depending of number of locations.

For example, bussiness1 has one server, Server1 (193.1.1.100) and two shops in different place. One shop in 193.1.2.x subnet and the other shop in 193.1.3.x subnet.

Then, this is my question. If vigor does not permit lan ip aliasing (as wan ip it does) how can i solve that ?

I need lan ip of 5510 in 192.168.10.x and as vm´s gateway are planned at 193.x.1.1 i don´t know if is possible to solve this with a vigor. I don´t have this issue with Fortigate, but hardware is more expensive for each shop point. That´s because i thought using Draytek.

Any idea ?

Thanks

I think the VP5510 will have inadequate throughput for a public server unless it's very low volume data.
Consider the Vigor 2960 instead; it may be more flexible.
