Blocked DNS - now how to block browsing by IP? was created by seymourharding
Hi

I've a 2820 and successfully set up rules to block any external DNS request except to OpenDNS, e.g. so you can't set 8.8.8.8 (Google) for DNS on your NIC settings to bypass my OpenDNS categories.

However, users can still browse by direct IP.
So I've just read here that Vigors can block all browsing by IP address, but I can't find any guides on doing this.
It's mentioned under GlobalView item "6. ...The DrayTek router can, in addition, block browsing by IP address altogether." which makes me think it's a function of the router outside what a GlobalView subscription enables.

Any hints/tips/ideas/pointers on how I can achieve this will be gratefully received.

Many thanks

Seymour

Hi Seymour,
On my 2710 I am running the Commtouch filters and there is an option to switch on or off 'private ip' addresses along with all the other categories like porn etc. So it would seem that this is something you will only get if you invest in a subscription to Globalview. Might be worth trying the 30 day freebie if you can get it so that you can confirm this is the case on your box - (but you have to have a new router for this I think :-(.)
Incidentally the Globalview filters are easy to use and work well, the only problem is that wikipedia is banned as being a 'streaming' site for some reason... no idea why
cheers!
