Vigor2850Vn + AP800 was created by and235100
Hi.

I have searched on the forum, but can't find anything that will help me.

I have a 2850Vn with Wireless enabled on 5Ghz.
I have an AP800 set to AP mode (although the Operation Mode makes no difference - same issue whatever)

Both router and AP are on the same subnet - 10.1.1.x/255.255.255.0 - router is .1 and AP is .2 (set in the respective device GUI setups)

My wired clients (I have a Cisco 2960G) connected to the 2850Vn - access the internet fine - pick up a correct DHCP-assigned IP from the 2850Vn.
My 5Ghz clients (TV, laptop etc.) work fine - pick up and IP correctly, access the internet etc. as expected.

The issue comes with my printer and my phone - 2.4Ghz only - (why I have an AP800 - both radio frequencies can't be used on the 2850Vn at the same time)
Both AP and router have the same Wifi settings, same SSID, same WPA2/PSK AES key etc.
Neither device (nor any other device with 5Ghz disabled) gets an IP address when attempting to connect to the AP800.
If I use a static address, I get mixed results - but essentially no connection - cannot ping the router or the AP from my phone - and my HP printer informs me that it is not connected to the internet.

MAC filtering can be switched on or off - no difference again. I have tried a factory reset, upgrading to 1.0.4 firmware etc. - no good.

Has anyone any ideas what could be the problem?

TIA.
Andrew.

Seems to be an intermittent issue.

Working again now. :-(

Now stopped working again.

Restarted router and AP - no change.

Is there a particular reason why Draytek hardware seems to be quite unreliable - especially in regard to other "business" providers - like Cisco etc.?
I realise Cisco are a lot more expensive - but at least it works - and works for a long time. If Draytek put more work into their products, I would use them at work - PC world solution springs to mind...

How difficult can it be for a router to be able to broadcast on both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz simultaneously..?

Update:

Purchased a Draytek N65 USB dongle to allow 5Ghz on the AP-800.

Funny thing is - I can have 2.4Ghz band enabled on the 2850Vn (no 5Ghz), and 5Ghz enabled on the AP (with 2.4 Ghz traffic disabled on the AP) - clients with 2.4Ghz-only radios work perfectly (as well as clients with both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz choose 5Ghz, work fine) (2.4Ghz-only clients connect to the 2850Vn, 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz clients connect to either - usually connect via 5Ghz) - but if I have 2.4Ghz band disabled on the 2850Vn (with 5Ghz or wireless switched off) and 2.4Ghz band and 5Ghz band enabled on the AP - only my clients with 5Ghz radios obtain an IP address - the 2.4Ghz-only clients fail to pick up an IP - they are shown as connected on the AP - but I cannot ping anything.

It is almost like the 2850Vn always has 2.4Ghz traffic enabled - whether the wireless radio function is enabled or not - which would account for the 2.4Ghz-only clients not picking up correctly owing to interference on 2.4Ghz from conflicting router (2850Vn) and AP-800 because of there close proximity.

Any thoughts?
TIA

I've had an absolute nightmare with the 2850vn. I have an AP-800 connected to it via wireless as a Universal Repeater, clients can connect, but not obtain any Internet access. I have never been able to resolve that issue.

I have had a great deal of trouble getting the 2850vn configured. The User Manual isn't that helpful and contains awful grammar and subject context.

I am close to abandoning DrayTek and going for Cisco ... just becoming too painful to work with it.

Hi TINZ, did you get this sorted? I've just had EXACTLY the same sort of issues on my set up. Finally got it working.

Here are my AP-800 set up parameters. I originally had a static IP address but changing the connection type to DHCP seemed to kick things in to life.

Universal Repeater Parameters
SSID YOUR SSID HERE
MAC Address (Optional) LEFT BLANK
Channel I'M USING 1
Security Mode WPA2/PSK
Encryption Type TKIP
Pass Phrase YOUR PASSWORD
Note : If Channel is modified, the Channel setting of AP would also be changed.

Universal Repeater IP Configuration
Connection Type DHCP
Router Name AP800
