I was under the impression that bt will supply two boxes, a standard modem and and a separate homehub/router thing.

Well, I have plusnet but the basic service is still provisioned by BT. They provide me with a BT openreach modem (VDSL phone line in one end, 10/100 Ethernet out of the other) that then plugs into whatever router, in my case WAN2 on the 2820n.

AFAIK, on BT infinity you get the BT openreach modem and a homehub. The home hub can be replaced by the 2820Vn plugged into WAN2 the same as mine. Any infinity users know otherwise? There are threads somewhere on this forum from people who have done this with login settings though most of them are default PPPOE anyway.

IF BT ever start to put in VDSL capable home hub instead of the modem + homehub then the story would be a whole different can of pilchards.

Hi, Engineer coming on tuesday to do whatever he does.

Do I need to change the ip of my 2820?

at the moment it is 192.168.1.1 , will this cause problems with the openreach modem? (Ip conflict?)

Well,

I ran that setup for a while (2820 connected to WAN2 BT Openreach modem) but I never reached full speed. I also had some connectivity issues and had to reboot the modem once or twice a week. I assumed it was due to the firewall limit of the 2820.

Was happy with Draytek so far, so I then went up to the 2850. Speed was better, but the 2850 also brought its own set of issues...

I reached about 55/11. Moving to 2850 got me up to 70/16... But the main gain was stability
