2820Vn and BT Infinity was created by b0redom
Hi All,
I've just had BT Infinity installed at home. My broadband has jumped from ~ 6 Meg down to ~ 60 Meg down, so I was a happy bunny, until I swapped out the supplied Technicolor wireless router for my Draytek 2820Vn. Now speediest shows that it's fallen back down to ~11 Meg!

I have disabled WAN1, enabled WAN2 and set the duplex to 100M full.

Dropping to 100M half ups the speed to ~ 26M down, but it's still way slower than the cheap Technicolor router I got from Zen. It also seems like it takes an AGE to sync if I power cycle the router.

Do I need to make any more changes? I really need the additional functionality I get from the Draytek, but it's all a bit pointless unless I can get a decent downstream speed.

To clarify I have:

BT Master socket --- Openreach router --- Draytek/Technicolor router ---- LAN

Regards….

Thanks for that. I've disabled QOS, and now I get:

Down: 11.78M (it seems to fluctuate between about 6 and 12)
Up 17.85M (fairly consistent)

Unless anyone can recommend anything else, it looks like it could be time to move the 2750 or 2850. I presume these can handle more extreme speeds? Does Draytek offer a trade-in program?

Any better recommendetions should be in that posts/threads, but of course come back later if an other member have replied you with something better
Usually If disable QOS and DoS (sorry forgot to mentioned early about dos) is slightly better speeds

The 2750 is ok can go 100mb due of its firewall so will do good
The 2850 can go up to 90mb due to its firewall and will do good as well and is same menus and options (UI) as the 2820 you have

If you want just router (in the case you are happy with the BT modem) look for the 2130 (up to 900mb-has updated via firmware as was before 500mb) or 2920 , up to 150mb (has updated to 150mb before was up to 100mb

Draytek has this chart if helps you
http://www.draytek.co.uk/products/comparison.html

If you go for a vdsl from draytek ... you may want to wait for their latest is coming out about in a month ... DrayTek 2760n
Is got 2 ... 10/100/1000 incoming wans (the other models mentioned are 10/100 wans (not LAN ports.Lan ports with all models are 10/100/1000) so it may be more than 100mb its firewall (Not full Specs at the moment)

After turning off all DoS, QoS, Internet load balancing (although there's only the Ethernet WAN port enabled anyway), and disabling everything else I could find, then setting Ethernet WAN to 100M/half, the router seemed to spring to life and reported an upstream of ~ 60M, so it seems like it'll be OK for now. The 2760n seems like an interesting proposition though. I don't really like having boxes I don't control/can't see inside, and at the moment the BT Openreach router is a necessary evil.

Thanks!
