2820 MPoA bridged to 3300 ? was created by reetp
I am seriously stuck !

I have a 3300 + 2 x 2820. All have the latest firmware.

Both 2820s connect to Telefonica.

One is via PPPoE which has no problems with either 2820 or the 3300.

The other has a static IP and normally connects with MPoA and it is this connection whicn I have problems with (don't ask why they connect differently on the same exchange - I have no idea)

Normal setup details for the 2820 are :

MPoA
Channel:2
VPI:8
VCI:32
Protocol:MPoA/1483 Routed IP LLC
Modulation: ADSL2+(G.992.5)
Always ON (no link detection)

I have tried to put the 2820 connection into Bridged mode (1483 Bridged IP LLC), and setup WAN1 on the 3300 as a static IP with the external IP address, subnet and gateway.

However, the 3300 shows 'connected' for a little while, and then disconnects. It doesn't seem to be making a connection properly and then fails on the detection.

I have tried different settings for 'Detected Type' on both the 2820 and the 3300 but none work.

I believe the 2820 had problem using ARP Detect so I left it on Always ON.

I have tried the following settings on the 2820 in case it had an effect (though I have not seen anything in syslog) :

"I cannot access Internet through my Vigor router and the Syslog keeps popping up “Source MAC address doesn't match ARP Sender's MAC address” messages. What should I do? "

ip arp accept 1

ip arp accept 3

But that didn't change anything. I have tried every combination of settings I can think of plus numerous factory resets.

Not sure where it is falling down, but something isn't working correctly and I'm lost as to know what to try next !

This has been driving me nuts for hours - something so simple shouldn't be so damn difficult !

I guess I could just let the 2820 make the connection as normal in routed mode, give a static IP to the 3300 WAN port but thought it would be better to try and do it the 'correct' way.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Have not the modem but simple rules should be ... if you have set the first modem (2820 the one with MPoA) at bridge mode then you have to set the 3300 at PPPoE giving there the username & pass from your isp

second attempt
let the 2820 operate normal with MPoA but change its modem ip to lets say 192.168.0.1 (note the ip,subnet, gateway)
at 3300 set it to static ip then at the settings set ip 192.168.0.100 (make sure is in the dhcp range of the 2820) subnet mask & gateway 192.168.0.1
this to get an idea

There is no user name / password for MPoA - just the IP address, subnet and gateway.

Yes, this is what I did in the end.
I also needed to access my server on the internal LAN so this is what I did :

2820
left it in MPoA routed mode with the IP settings so it connects normally.
Set static LAN IP of 192.168.x.250
Disabled all firewalling
Set DMZ on
Set Address Mapping to forward all ports to the 3300 WAN IP address 192.168.x.1

3300
Set WAN to static IP with address 192.168.x.1
Set DMZ to local IP of server

If you do not turn on the DMZ AND the address mapping on the 2820 you can access from LAN to WAN but you cannot get from WAN to LAN.

This is NOT how it should be done and is a complete hack. I think there is problem with the 2820 but no idea what. I am happy to test if anyone has any answers - it kept me up to 6am scratching my head, and that of a pretty knowledgeable friend and IT hacker as well ! Maybe we missed a trick, and would be happy to be shown the error of our ways !

For the record, an alternative solution.

Set your 2820 to Active True IP with the relevant MAC address, and the 3300 WAN ports to DHCP.

Some odd things do happen - I can still reach one of the 2820s from behind the 3300 on WAN1 but not on WAN - and a the settings for each port are identical.

So I can't get to one of the routers at all.

Will mail support but as it is now EOL I doubt they will help.
