2830 Gig port dropping ADSL was created by gaz90
Hi,

Have two Gig cards and both cause the 2830 to drop ADSL (full initial / handshaking loop) when plugged into the Gig port?

Keeps on working in a 10/100 port?

Any ideas? PSU / bad caps issue on 2830?

Cheers,
Gareth.

sorry,

1 x 2830
1 x Laptop with 2 x Gigabit ports (1 x PCMCIA and 1 x USB)
1 x Laptop with 10/100 port
1 x CAT5e cable <100m

The 10/100 Laptop port works just fine in the 2830.

When the other Laptop (in an attempt to get a Gigabit connection running) plugs into the router (GigaLAN 1-4) it drops it's ADSL link? Using either of the two Gigabit devices.

Just wondering if anybody has logged this as a 2830 previously know problem or it's time for me to start swapping adapters/cables around.

Gareth.

100 meters of cat5e? there could be the problem (of course not sure 100%)... the longer the cable the longest taking the data to arrive and if you use many wired devices there is a change of conflicts due to bug in the 2830 or wrong cat5e type

with the same current connections you having try sorter cat5 just to see if symptoms stay and if not ...
try another cat5e (are networking straight cat5e & also are cat5e crossover ones) but not sure which one can handle better
or (i know is expensive) try with cat6 which is highest standards
