I currently have a 2830n connected to a BT Infinity modem, but am thinking of replacing this with a 2760 as it it includes the integrated VDSL. It is also significantly cheaper than the 2860 and, according to "expertreviews", has better out of the box wireless performance, though I could be swayed by the 2860 if it offers significant benefit.

I also have a home office at the end of my garden c. 60m away, connected via a cat 5e cable for my work PC and using wireless from the 2830 (with high gain antennae) for my 2 other PCs, printer, phone & tablet.

So a couple of questions

1. as a home user is there any benefit of the 2860 over the 2760?

2. could I take the soon to be defunct 2830 and plug it into the cat 5e in the office to act as a wired router (using the 2760 as the dhcp server) letting me plug in the other PCs & printer AND act as a wireless access point for my phone and tablet when in the office (so getting rid of the high gain antennae). Would there be a problem using the same SID for wireless from the 2760 and 2830 or should I create a second SID?

Cheers
Keith

the 2860 has 5 Lans ports (4 the 2760)
the 2860n plus model has & 5G wifi
more firewall throughput of 200 mbps (around 90 the 2760)
the 2860 has incoming wan same as the 2830 (the 2760 none)
more vpn tunnels etc

I never tried as access point but i am sure is possible ... is from different model but all settings are the same and with the 2860 (the 2760 has slightly different UI but again i am sure it can match these settings)
